Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg voiced an opinion that contradicts the recent stance among tech leaders that a coordinated slowdown in AI technology is necessary to avoid harming humanity.
In a post on X, Zuckerberg said AI companies have enough competition and liability to act responsibly and develop their models safely at the current pace. He pointed out that Meta delayed its Muse AI agent earlier this year for security upgrades.
His statement counters Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who called for an industry-wide pause on AI capability improvements. OpenAI’s Sam Altman and xAI’s Elon Musk endorsed this.
However, President Donald Trump and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang have cautioned that over-regulating or stalling technological developments in the US can benefit China in the AI race.
Critics have questioned Zuckerberg’s view on AI companies caring about humanity. They highlighted Meta’s recent $18 billion settlement in teen social media addiction lawsuits filed by dozens of US states.
