The Department of Transportation (DOT) slapped the largest fine ever of $4.1 million on American Airlines for several delays that left passengers stranded on the tarmac.

The DOT’s investigation revealed that between 2018 and 2021, the airline kept 43 domestic flights stuck on the ground for at least three hours, during which it didn’t allow passengers to deplane.
