Stellantis, which includes brands like Jeep and Dodge, is expanding its factory complex in northern Mexico to produce Ram 1500 pickup trucks.
The company will continue manufacturing these trucks at its Sterling Heights, Michigan plant and invest $235 million in Michigan for future electric Ram models.
The expansion follows a landmark labor agreement with the UAW, raising concerns about potential job shifts out of the US. Despite these worries, Stellantis reassured that it would comply with union contracts while transitioning to electric vehicle production.
As of this year, about 27% of Stellantis vehicles made in North America were produced in Mexico, up from 23.8% the previous year.
