The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a new investigation into Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system after receiving more than 50 reports of vehicles running red lights or drifting into the wrong lanes.
Four of the incidents had resulted in injuries.
The probe comes just as Tesla released the latest FSD software, which CEO Elon Musk claims uses improved data from the company’s robotaxi trials in Austin, Texas.
The safety agency said it has identified several instances where cars ignored red lights or made unsafe turns, with some incidents occurring repeatedly at the same Maryland intersection.
NHTSA previously closed an Autopilot probe linked to 13 fatal crashes but continues to review Tesla’s fix for that system.
