Volkswagen reaches deal with union to avoid plant closures

Volkswagen and IG Metal trade union have agreed to a deal that will avert plant closures in Germany.

However, the two sides have agreed to cut ~35,000 jobs across the country by 2030 to save around $12 billion (€15bn).

The job cuts are expected to be achieved through measures, including options like early retirement.
