A new survey shows that overall traveler satisfaction at North American airports has rebounded sharply despite heavy passenger traffic.
The 2026 JD Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study surveyed 25,000 US and Canadian residents and found that satisfaction scores rose across all facility sizes.
Two focus areas were how smoothly passengers could move through the airport and their overall trust in it.
On a 1,000-point scale, mega airports (seeing over 33 million passengers a year) saw a 14-point surge. Large airports (processing between 10 and 32.9 million passengers annually) observed scores rise by 13 points, while medium airports (seeing between 4.5 and 9.9 million passengers every year) witnessed a 16-point gain.
The three best-performing airports by size category were the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), Tampa International Airport (TPA), and Charleston International Airport (CHS).
Industry experts attribute the progress in customer satisfaction to airport improvement projects, upgraded food options, and enhanced terminal infrastructure.
