Tropical Storm Alberto, the first storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, has triggered warnings for over 2 million people along the Texas Gulf Coast and in northeastern Mexico.

While forecast to make landfall in Mexico by Thursday, the storm has already caused flooding in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott has declared a severe weather disaster in 51 counties.

Alberto is expected to bring heavy rains of up to 20 inches and gusty winds of 50 mph.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts an active hurricane season with 17 to 25 named storms, fueled by warmer sea temperatures and La Nina conditions.
