FTX fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried’s (SBF) top aide and ex-girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, was sentenced to two years in prison for her involvement in the collapse of the crypto exchange and scamming investors of $8 billion in 2022—one of the largest financial crimes in US history.

Ellison, 29, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering after helping SBF misuse billions in customer funds. She testified against SBF last October, describing his orchestration of the scheme to divert customer funds from FTX to Alameda Research, of which she was the CEO.

SBF is currently serving a 25-year sentence.

Although Ellison cooperated with prosecutors, which Judge Lewis Kaplan praised, he said she can’t get a “get out of jail free card” after committing a crime this serious.

Two other former FTX executives who pleaded guilty, Gary Wang and Nishad Singh, will be sentenced in the coming months.
