The Senate passed its version of the annual defense policy bill—which sets spending at $886 billion for 2024—on Thursday with bipartisan support of 86-11 votes, unlike the House legislation that passed earlier this month.
The bill passed by the Senate yesterday includes
- A 5.2% pay raise for service members and the Defense Department’s civilian workforce.
- Nearly $300 million in security assistance for Ukraine.
- Creating a new program that allows using renewable energy during military operations.
- Coming up with a Department of Energy program that would encourage domestic uranium production for nuclear reactors.

Both chambers will fight out their differences after their August recess.
