President Donald Trump on Monday introduced a new “Trump class” of Navy battleships, calling them stronger and more advanced than the current fleet.
He said the ships will boost American military power, support shipbuilding, and send a warning to rivals.
The battleships will be part of a new “Golden Fleet” and come equipped with hypersonic weapons, rail guns, cruise missiles, advanced lasers, and AI control. Each ship will weigh 30,000–40,000 tons and be built in the US.
The first vessel could carry Trump’s name.
Trump said the Navy will start with two ships, followed by eight more, with plans for 20–25 eventually. He also wants to modernize aircraft carriers.
The announcement comes as the US strengthens its naval presence in the Caribbean amid tensions with Venezuela.
