Americans aged 55 and older now control nearly 70% of US household wealth and drive 45% of personal spending

Georgetown, Texas, is now the fastest-growing city in the US, thanks to the influx of baby boomers settling in Sun City, a vibrant planned community spanning 5,421 acres designed for those 55 and older.

With amenities like pools, fitness centers and pickleball courts, it has become a magnet.

The city is thriving with 92% homeownership. More than 60% of homes are mortgage-free, and a median household income of $84,00. The average age of people is 73, with Sun City’s 17,000 residents injecting life and wealth into Georgetown’s economy.

The city experienced an impressive growth rate of nearly 11% in 2021, 14% in 2022, and another 11% last year, fueled by local businesses, hospitals, and health clinics, creating hundreds of jobs annually.

The trend reflects a national shift: Americans aged 55 and older now control nearly 70% of US household wealth and drive 45% of personal spending.

With median home prices in Sun City reaching $495,000 and 55% of purchases made in cash, Georgetown continues to attract active, financially stable retirees.
