President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Harvard University should lose its tax-exempt status, escalating the growing animosity between his administration and the university.
His threat comes on the heels of the Ivy League refusing to follow the White House’s demands to combat antisemitism on campus by changing its policies related to campus activism and diversity. The university already faces a $2.2 billion federal funding freeze.
While nearly all universities, charity organizations and religious institutions in the US are tax-exempt, revoking that status over policy clashes would be unprecedented, says Politico.
