Disney announced plans to spend $60 billion over the next decade on theme park and cruise expansions, doubling the previous decade’s investment.
The plans include a villains-themed land at Magic Kingdom and Disney’s first suspended roller coaster on the Avengers Campus in Disneyland. Expansions are also planned for parks in California, France and China, though specific timelines weren’t provided.
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, revealed the plans at the D23 event over the weekend.
The investment aims to address Disney’s recent weaker financial results due to decreased consumer demand and higher costs.
Disney is under pressure to introduce new attractions to justify higher ticket prices and compete with Universal Studios.
