Disney’s FX series Shogun took home the most wins (18), including Best Drama, for a show in a single year at the 2024 Emmy Awards, breaking the previous record set by the HBO mini-series John Adams 16 years ago.
It is also Disney’s top Emmy in 19 years, the last being Best Drama for Lost in 2005. Shogun’s wins are also a breakthrough for the foreign language series since 70% of the show is in Japanese.
Surprisingly, the Max series Hacks took home the Emmy for Best Comedy, beating The Bear.
Other notable wins included Netflix’s controversial limited series Baby Reindeer, Peacock’s The Traitors, which beat RuPaul’s Drag Race for best reality competition, and Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show, leading to another win in the late-night category.
This year’s Emmys also marked the second ceremony in a calendar year after the 2023 show was delayed due to Hollywood strikes.
