The Justice Department (DOJ) and several states plan to sue Ticketmaster parent Live Nation today, alleging it has used its ticketing monopoly to stifle competition and should be broken up, reports Bloomberg.

The lawsuit may seek to undo the 2010 merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster.

The company faces accusations of high ticket fees, poor customer service, and anti-competitive practices, yet controls over 80% of the primary ticket sales market for major venues in the US.

The DOJ’s investigation into Live Nation began in 2022. It intensified after Ticketmaster’s website crashed during ticket presales for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, eventually leading to the cancellation of the planned sales.
