Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, renowned for the Oscar-nominated documentary Super Size Me that shed light on America's obesity crisis by documenting his month-long McDonald’s diet, passed away on Thursday at 53 due to cancer complications.

In Super Size Me (his debut film that propelled his career), Spurlock ate McDonald’s for 30 days straight. The diet made him gain 25 pounds and gave him liver damage, he claimed.

Spurlock’s career encompasses nearly 70 documentaries addressing societal issues.

He stepped down from his production company in 2017 after admitting to sexual misconduct.

Spurlock’s career spanned various mediums, including TV shows like 30 Days and documentaries like One Direction: This Is Us.

Born in West Virginia, Morgan graduated from New York University and founded the production studio Warrior Poets, leaving a lasting impact on the film industry.
