After more than 40 years at the wheel, host Pat Sajak will spin it for the last time today. The Wheel of Fortune showrunner’s final episode of the show will air at 7:30 p.m. on KABC-7.

Sajak started hosting Wheel of Fortune in 1982. He holds the record for the longest career as a game show host, with nearly 8,000 episodes. He replaced Chuck Woolery.

Over the years, Sajak has won three Daytime Emmy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, a People’s Choice Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He has previously worked as a radio newscaster in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and as a weatherman in Nashville.

The 77-year-old announced his plans to retire last June, stating Season 41 will be his last. He plans to spend retirement time with his family and solving crossword puzzles.

Ryan Seacrest will take over as host in September, with long-time co-host Vanna White staying on for two more years.
