Twisters had a blockbuster opening weekend. The sequel to the 1996 hit disaster movie Twister made $80.5 million from 4,151 North American theaters, according to studio estimates.

The collection, which is roughly $30 million more than analysts expected initially, hints at audiences’ interest in follow-up stories.

Inside Out 2 has grossed over $1.4 billion globally since its June release, Despicable Me 4 has made $574 million worldwide since July 3 and A Quiet Place: Day One has made $127.6 million since last month.

Collectively, over the past month, these movies have reduced the year-to-date domestic box office deficit from 21% to 17%, according to Comscore.

Other sequels hitting theaters soon include Deadpool & Wolverine (this Friday), Gladiator 2, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Joker: Folie a Deux.
