Nintendo teased the much-awaited Switch 2 gaming console, aiming to increase its hardware sales in 2025. The trailer released Thursday boasts a larger screen and redesigned Joy-Con controllers, alongside a brief glimpse of a new Mario Kart game.

The new hybrid console has a U-shaped kickstand that allows for near-flat placement. It is also backward-compatible, ensuring fans can play their old Switch games on the new system.

More details, including the new features, price and release date, will be revealed in the Nintendo Direct event on April 2.

The announcement comes as Nintendo grapples with declining sales of its current-generation Switch, released in 2017. It has sold over 146 million of them worldwide and is the second best-selling console in the US.

However, sales dropped by 2024 amid competition from the Steam Deck and handheld devices from Microsoft.

The Japanese company reported a 69% year-over-year drop in net profit to $178.2 million in its September quarter.
