Federal officials revealed new evidence on Monday regarding Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a Florida golf course.
Prosecutors stated that Routh had been planning the attack for months and left a letter in case of a failure. According to the letter, he allegedly wrote, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I am so sorry I failed you.” He also offered $150,000 to anyone who could complete the job.
Routh, 58, had a list of Trump’s expected locations and traveled from North Carolina to Florida to carry out the attack. Prosecutors also presented a photograph of a “sniper’s nest” allegedly set up by the suspect.
Investigation continues into how he obtained the firearm, as he had a criminal record that should have barred him from purchasing a gun.
