Elon Musk worked illegally in the US while on a student visa, according to the Washington Post, which has obtained court records, company documents and interviews with former business associates.
Musk moved to the United States in 1995 to study at Stanford but never attended classes. Instead, he focused on his startup, Zip2, without the legal right to work.
President Joe Biden said in a Saturday event, “He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. He’s talking about all these illegals coming our way?”
Musk denied the claim in a late-night X post, stating, “I was in fact allowed to work in the US.”
Court records and interviews reveal that Musk launched his entrepreneurial career without proper work authorization. His Zip2 venture eventually sold for about $300 million in 1999, marking the start of his rise to fame and fortune.
Musk has been scrutinized for his anti-immigrant stance and significant financial contributions to support Trump. He has not publicly acknowledged his illegal work status.
