Ex-Republican Congressman George Santos was sentenced to 87 months in prison yesterday for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The former New York representative pleaded guilty to the federal charges last August. The politician was ousted from Congress after the fraud case alleged that he misused campaign funds and lied about his background.

He apologized for his actions. His attorneys had requested he serve two years. Santos will report to prison in July.
