Legal experts expect President Donald Trump’s order to be overturned, citing over 100 years of legal precedent supporting birthright citizenship|@WhiteHouse|X

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday that would end birthright citizenship. A day later, 24 Democratic states challenged the order in federal court, arguing that one of the White House’s signature policies is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment and that the President cannot change the Constitution through executive action.

The order could affect 150,000 newborns annually, rendering them undocumented at birth.

Critics, including New Jersey’s attorney general, called Trump’s order extreme, noting it could affect children born to international students or tourists.

Legal experts expect the order to be overturned, citing over 100 years of legal precedent supporting birthright citizenship.
