New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Edward Caban resigned yesterday after federal agents seized his phone last week as part of a criminal investigation.
These inquiries include allegations of illegal foreign donations related to New York Mayor Eric Adams’ campaign and potential misconduct involving senior officials in his administration. The investigations have involved searches and seizures impacting several high-ranking officials.
Caban’s resignation, effective Friday, marks the end of his tenure just over a year after Mayor Eric Adams appointed him for the position. Caban was the first Latino to lead the NYPD.
Thomas G. Donlon, a veteran FBI counterterrorism official, will serve as the interim commissioner.
