President Joe Biden criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday when he said Israel’s leader hadn’t done enough to secure a hostage and ceasefire deal with Hamas.
The comment followed a crucial meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and the national security team after six hostages, including American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin, were found dead in Gaza on Sunday.
The White House indicated that the Biden administration might offer a final ceasefire proposal to Israel and Hamas this week.
Netanyahu, however, rejected calls for an immediate Gaza ceasefire and vowed to maintain control over the Philadelphi Corridor, deeming it essential for Israel’s security.
Ongoing tensions
Massive protests have erupted in Israel, with critics accusing Netanyahu of failing to secure hostage releases.
