The US failed to stop the deadly attack on the American military base in Jordan because the hostile drone zeroed in on its target at the same time a US drone was returning to the base, according to officials aware of the matter.

US officials report that a Tehran-backed militia launched the drone from Iraq targeting Tower 22 base that sits in Jordan, which left three US troops dead and more than 40 wounded.

Investigation, retaliation and Iran’s denial
The Pentagon is investigating the incident to determine whether human error or militia tactics contributed to the failure to stop the enemy drone.

President Joe Biden and his security team convened to discuss potential responses, including airstrikes on Iranian-backed groups.

Despite the US stance, Iran denies any involvement and called the allegations baseless. It has further warned against provocation.

The tragic event marks an escalation in hostilities against US forces in Iraq, Syria and the Red Sea since the October 7 Hamas-Israel conflict.

The US emphasizes the need to deter further attacks without plunging into a broader conflict in the Middle East.
