Maduro to appear in US court today, faces drug, weapons charges

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will appear in federal court in Manhattan today.

Maduro is charged with leading a 25-year drug and terrorism conspiracy involving top government officials.

He and his wife, Cilia Flores, also face cocaine importation and illegal weapons charges. The Maduros are expected to plead not guilty to the charges.

The US government aims to seize assets linked to the alleged crimes.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s high court ruled Vice President Delcy Rodriguez will serve as interim president, calling Maduro’s absence temporary.
