America already had a standing agreement letting it keep troops in Greenland
The US and Denmark have finalized an agreement granting the US a significant military presence on Greenland, while shutting out US adversaries from building their own bases there, President Donald Trump said yesterday.
In the post, Trump said the deal grants it “permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland.” He further said the US will start building “a large Military presence” there.
America already has a standing agreement that lets it keep troops in Greenland.
The latest development follows President Trump’s push to make Greenland part of the US.
In statements yesterday, Denmark’s prime minister said the deal recognizes the “sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom” and the “right of the Greenlandic people to self-determination.” Greenland’s prime minister said that the deal recognized the region’s interests and its role in Arctic international cooperation. “This benefits us all,” he said.
