Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the US ended on good terms, with him and President Donald Trump touting the mutual friendship they have built.
Xi’s visit came as the two nations sought to navigate tensions over trade, AI, and Taiwan. He said the “Thucydides trap,” the risk of conflict between an emerging power and an established one, can be avoided.
He advocated for deeper communication, peaceful coexistence, and mutual trust to achieve national success for both countries. As part of his proposals, Xi offered to invite 100,000 young Americans to visit China on student exchanges.
The leaders discussed technology, AI, security, and establishing a balanced trading relationship. However, Chinese imports continue to flow rapidly into the US, putting the Southeast Asian country on course to run a $1 trillion trade surplus for the second consecutive year.
