As the war enters its eighth month, President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart negotiations over its nuclear program.
The rejection came a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that the strait could resume “normal maritime passage” within seven days if the necessary conditions are met, speaking to reporters at a UN gathering in New York.
Iran’s proposal closely tracked a memorandum of understanding the two countries signed in June, which was abandoned soon after.
Iran reiterated Sunday that a diplomatic solution is the only way forward in its conflict with the United States and Israel.
