President Donald Trump said the tariff would take effect immediately and apply to all trade with the US
President Donald Trump said on Monday that the US will impose a 25% tariff on any country that continues to do business with Iran.
Trump said the tariff would take effect immediately and apply to all trade with the US. The announcement comes amid Iran’s crackdown on protests against its government, which has killed over 500 people.
The White House has not released an official order, and it is also unclear whether the new tariff would be added to existing trade duties.
China is Iran’s biggest trading partner. Other countries that trade with Tehran include Turkey, India, Pakistan, Armenia, and the UAE.
Russia also expanded trade with the Islamic nation after signing a free-trade deal in 2025.
The decision comes as the Supreme Court reviews limits on the president’s power to impose tariffs.
