A bipartisan delegation of six US lawmakers and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang arrived separately in Taiwan yesterday to meet with the country’s new leader, Lai Ching-te.
The group, led by Texas Republican Michael McCaul, was the first congressional group to visit Taiwan since the inauguration of President Lai on May 20.
He will meet with lawmakers on Monday to discuss regional peace, Taiwan-US trade, and other issues.
The visit follows China’s largest military exercise around the island in a year.
But China strongly opposed the visit, claiming it undermines the Washington-Beijing relationship and regional stability.
Meanwhile, Nvidia’s Huang arrived to attend a tech expo, highlighting Taiwan’s critical role in the global AI supply chain due to its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
The nation’s TSMC is the world’s largest chip maker, whose clients include Apple and Nvidia.
