President Donald Trump suggested that the US forces could seize Kharg Island

President Donald Trump on Monday warned of major attacks on Iran’s energy sites, including oil hubs and desalination plants, if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened.

He also suggested US forces could seize Kharg Island.

Markets swung as oil prices rose and US futures climbed amid mixed signals from the Middle East. Brent rebounded toward $114 after dipping to $111 on reports that Trump is open to ending the conflict even if the Strait of Hormuz stays closed.

The dollar and Treasury yields slipped on the news. But a drone strike on a Kuwaiti tanker near Dubai showed the danger to Gulf shipping remains.
