Argentinian President Javier Milei earned a decisive midterm win, strengthening his control in Congress and his push for bold free-market reforms.

His party, La Libertad Avanza, won 41% of the vote with 92% counted. The win has secured his presidential vetoes.

The victory marks a sharp turnaround from Milei’s party’s September defeat and reignites investor optimism.

The peso strengthened to around 1,390 pesos per dollar in crypto markets as analysts said Milei’s win bolsters political stability and US financial backing.

Washington recently extended a $20 billion currency swap line to support Argentina’s economy.

A jubilant Milei called the midterm victory “the most reformist Congress in the history of Argentina,” vowing to advance tax, labor, and pension reforms.
