Ukraine and the US clashed over a mineral rights deal as Kyiv pushed for better terms while Washington urged quick acceptance.
The Trump administration seeks preferential access to Ukraine’s titanium, lithium and rare earth metals as repayment for US aid.
At yesterday’s press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the proposal, saying he does not want such an agreement that will give the US access to its country’s minerals. He also insists on better financial terms and security guarantees.
He further argued that the $100 billion in US aid was a grant, not a debt.
In addition, Zelensky said he would step down if Ukraine gained NATO membership or if his resignation led to peace.
Meanwhile, France and the UK are lobbying Washington for stronger security guarantees.
