Federal prosecutors in New York charged Indian billionaire Gautam Adani with fraud, alleging he and associates paid $250 million in bribes to government officials in India to secure solar contracts.

Prosecutors claim Adani Green Energy raised $175 million from US investors using false statements.

The case follows a 2022 Hindenburg Research report accusing Adani of stock manipulation and fraud, which the company denied.

That year, Adani unseated Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s second-richest person.
