Israel fired at vehicles in southern Lebanon yesterday, calling them “suspects” and claiming the action breached a truce with Hezbollah that began Wednesday.
In response, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah accused the Israeli attack on border villages as a clear violation of the cease-fire agreement.
The exchange of accusations highlights the fragility of the 60-day cease-fire. It was brokered by the US and France to end the conflict that has lasted over a year in Lebanon, with hopes for a permanent resolution.
Following the tensions, oil prices rose slightly on Thursday. Brent crude futures climbed 34 cents to $73.17 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude gained 16 cents to $68.88.
