Benjamin Netanyahu will now consult a smaller group of ministers|@netanyahu|X

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dissolved the country’s war cabinet on Monday after two of the five-member committee quit recently over disagreements about his handling of the war. The departure of the Cabinet’s centrist member and Netanyahu’s rival, Benny Gantz, acted as the catalyst for the move.

The war cabinet was formed under a unity agreement after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Netanyahu will now consult a smaller group of ministers, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

The shift occurs amid mounting protests demanding a cease-fire and negotiations for hostages held by Hamas.

This month, the UN backed a three-phase cease-fire proposal outlined by President Joe Biden seeking a pause in fighting, hostage release and increased humanitarian aid.
