The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, remains in the hospital battling pneumonia in both lungs, according to the Vatican.
An update on Sunday said the Pope was still receiving high-flow oxygen therapy and had undergone blood transfusions.
It further added that blood tests also showed he was struggling with early stages of kidney failure, which was “currently under control.”
The Pope has a history of respiratory illnesses and, as a youngster, suffered a severe bout of pneumonia that led to the removal of part of one lung.
The 88-year-old pontiff was hospitalized on February 14 and is in critical condition, receiving an oxygen supply. He has also reportedly undergone blood transfusions.
The Vatican said doctors have reassured the Pope is alert and “well oriented.”
