Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Moscow is ready for “serious” discussions on a US-backed peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year war in Ukraine.
Speaking during a visit to Kyrgyzstan, Putin said the plan could serve as the basis for a future deal and that the US appeared to be considering Russia’s position.
US envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to travel to Moscow for talks next week.
Ukraine has tentatively backed the plan, which has been streamlined to 19 key points.
However, Russia insists it will not compromise on major objectives, including control over Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.
Kremlin officials cautioned against expecting a quick end to the conflict, emphasizing that any agreement would require serious analysis and negotiations before a final deal.
