Venezuelan opposition claims that their presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, received more votes than President Nicolas Maduro in the recent election seems likely according to a Washington Post review of the tally sheets.
Results of an analysis of 23,000 precinct-level tally sheets, representing nearly 80% of the country’s voting machines, contradict the official count, which declared Maduro the winner with 52% of the votes against Gonzalez’s 43%.
According to the opposition findings, Gonzalez earned 67% of the vote compared to Maduro’s 30%. This discrepancy suggests significant electoral fraud. International bodies like the Carter Center criticized the election for not meeting democratic standards.
Maduro alleges a cyberattack prevented the release of detailed precinct-level results, but is yet to provide evidence.
