The father of the 14-year-old suspect who shot and killed two students and two teachers in the Apalachee High School in Georgia this week was arrested on Thursday and charged with multiple counts of second-degree murder.

It is the most severe charge ever filed against the parent of an alleged school shooter, according to the Washington Post.

The shooter’s father, Colin Gray, 54, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children. He will appear in court on Friday.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the charges stem from Gray allowing his son access to firearms, including a black AR-15-style rifle used in the deadly attack.

Investigators revealed that the teen suspect had shown interest in past mass shootings, particularly the 2018 Parkland shooting. He is also charged with four counts of felony murder.

Authorities had previously investigated the family after receiving tips about online threats, but no action was taken.
