For the second year in a row, school shootings with casualties in the country reached a record high during the 2021-22 school year, recent data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reveals.
Public and private elementary and secondary schools reported 327 school shootings (a historic peak) during that period, 188 of which resulted in casualties—up from 93 school shootings with casualties reported in the 2020-21 school year.
The 188 mass school shootings led to 57 deaths, out of which 47 were children aged between 12 and 18.
