Amazon employs around 350,000 corporate roles

Amazon is reportedly planning to cut nearly 30,000 corporate jobs this week, reversing its pandemic hiring spree.

Positions affected could include HR, devices, services, operations, and AWS.

The ecommerce and tech giant employs ~1.55 million people worldwide, and around 10% (350,000) of them are corporate employees.

While Amazon hasn’t confirmed the layoffs, CNBC called it the company’s largest layoff to date. It would surpass the 27,000 roles it began eliminating in 2022.

Earlier this year, CEO Andy Jassy said he aims to trim bureaucracy, reduce the number of managers, and increase the use of AI.

Amazon shares rose 1.2% on Monday. It expects another big holiday selling season and plans to create 250,000 seasonal jobs.
