The Disneyland workers seek a minimum hourly wage increase comparable to their counterparts in Disney World|Carlos|CC BY-NC 2.0
Disneyland employees who play costumed characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy want to join the Actors’ Equity Association and filed to have a vote about it.
The move follows the 1,700-member group’s February announcement of wanting to join a union.
They seek a minimum hourly wage increase comparable to their counterparts in Disney World, Orlando, Florida—where 32,000 workers secured raises that equaled $3 an hour by the end of last year and hikes of roughly 37% over their previous hourly rate by 2026.
Despite recent pay increases to $24.15 an hour, some Disneyland workers argue it’s insufficient, particularly considering California recently raised the minimum wage of fast food workers to $20 an hour.
