According to the agreement, port strikes will be suspended until January 15, allowing time to negotiate a new contract

The historic dockworkers’ strike that stalled work at 36 East Coast ports has been suspended temporarily after the International Longshoremen’s Association union and the United States Maritime Alliance tentatively agreed to a deal offering a 62% wage increase over six years.

According to the agreement, port strikes will be suspended until January 15, allowing time to negotiate a new contract with clauses regarding the use of automated machinery and retirement benefits.

Meanwhile, port workers will be covered under the old contract, which expired on September 30.
