New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was convicted yesterday on all 16 counts tied to a scheme where he helped foreign governments make favorable deals in exchange for bribes, including gold bars and a Mercedes-Benz.

In light of his conviction, Democratic lawmakers called for his resignation. “Senator Menendez must now do what is right for his constituents, the Senate, and our country, and resign,” said Democratic Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer.

Menendez’s wife, Nadine, also faces charges in the bribery case, but her trial was delayed so she could undergo breast cancer treatment.
