Party game maker Cards Against Humanity (CAH) sued Elon Musk’s SpaceX for allegedly trespassing and using land it owns in southern Texas. The lawsuit seeks $15 million in damages.
CAH alleges that when confronted, the rocket company made a “lowball offer” of less than 50% of the area’s current value, which was enough to trigger legal action.
The game company bought the piece of land near the US-Mexico border in 2017 through a crowdfunding effort in which 150,000 people donated $15 each to hinder then-President Donald Trump’s efforts to build a border wall.
Since its purchase, the land was left untouched until six months ago, when SpaceX’s Starbase operations began to spill over the area. The card game maker claims this has destroyed the land’s natural vegetation.
CAH says it will pass on the lawsuit’s wins to the donors, which means they may get $100 each for their $15 donations.
