Special Counsel Jack Smith led two criminal investigations against Donald Trump
Special counsel Jack Smith, who led two criminal investigations against Donald Trump—one over the former president’s alleged classified documents mishandling case and the other over an alleged attempt to interfere in the 2020 election outcome—has resigned from the Justice Department.
His resignation was expected before the Trump inauguration. It came after Smith submitted the final report on both cases to Attorney General Merrick Garland—who appointed him in 2022.
Smith’s final report on Trump’s alleged 2020 election interference case is expected to be released by the DOJ soon.
