A year after the implosion of the Titan submersible, which killed five people, including CEO Stockton Rush, OceanGate is now under federal investigation, according to Wired.
The Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is contacting former employees and expedition members as part of its inquiry.
Although the investigation’s focus remains undisclosed, reports suggest that a forensic accountant is involved, along with the US Postal Inspection Service.
OceanGate, which has attracted over $28 million in investor funding, operates through multiple entities, complicating its financial oversight.
As the investigation unfolds, legal issues continue to mount for the company, including a $50 million lawsuit filed by the family of explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
